I’m pretty big on being anti-food waste in our home. It’s a money thing, it’s an environment thing, and it’s a principle thing. It’s just frustrating to waste! I try to use every bit of every item in our kitchen; from kale stems to chia seeds. My favorite way to save super ripe produce from going to waste is by freezing it! I’ll freeze pretty much anything. The only problem: freezer burn! Using tupperwares or silicone bags leaves excess air and my bananas and spinach always leave the freezer with a film of ice. Ugh- not appealing.

So when my friends at Food Saver reached out with their FoodSaver FM2000 Vacuum Sealing System, I was excited to partner and give it a go. I grew up vacuum sealing holiday cookies for my Dad’s clients every year and unboxing this beauty gave me all the nostalgic feels. Also a craving for Italian rainbow cookies. Anyways.. of course, I had some experimenting to do.

The FoodSaver FM2000 Vacuum Sealing System gives you more ways to preserve your food. You can use it to seal FoodSaver zipper bags, canisters, or containers. That means making prep-ahead meals, storing leftovers, and freezing meats and produce for longer periods of time. It’s a super sensible way to save money and eliminate food waste. Plus, if you’re going to buy a vacuum sealer, might as well buy one from the #1 best-selling vacuum sealing brand with a 5 year limited warranty and ETL Safety certification. Am I right?

So, my favorite way to use it? To prep smoothies! I went one step further with freezing my produce. I started combining my favorite smoothies into little vacuum sealed packs for easy on-the-go mornings. Not only am I avoiding wasting ripe produce, but now I’m saving time in the morning by pre-portioning and combining my favorite breakfast smoothie ingredients in one little pouch. SCORE!

I know what you’re thinking, okay, I’m sold on the vacuum sealer- I hate freezer burn, I hate waste- now give me your favorite smoothie recipes, Rebecca!
