Nashville, TN is known for live country music and honky tonks. We spent a little over 24 hours exploring Germantown, Broadway, East Nashville, The Gulch and Division Street. The city is pretty walkable within each area but we did opt for an uber a few times. I was initially planning to spend the weekend in Boulder, CO, but last minute couldn’t catch my flight and hopped on one to meet Justin and friends in Nashville. Needless to say, I did not partake much in the agenda planning. I went with the flow and enjoyed the company of good friends and occasionally some good music- plenty of really great people watching too. We spent the weekend bar hopping, which is pretty much the main attraction in the city. Although I’m not a big drinker, as long as I can hear the person next to me and maybe play an occasional game, I’m down for a bar or two.
Eat, drink & be merry:

Von Elrod’s Beer Garden & Sausage House: We visited for brunch. They had quite the selection of sweet and savory bites. Plenty of people around us indulged in liter steins of mimosas. I chose the Von’s Breakfast and we all agreed the Sweet Potato Jojo’s were the star of the menu. They also had vegan sausage patties that were lentil and beet based. Seriously, something for everyone!
Butchertown Hall: The group sampled a variety of beers and agreed that the New Heights Coffee & Cream beer was by far the best. It came highly recommended by the bartender and rightfully so!
Old Glory Cocktail Bar: My favorite bar of the trip! It was a hassle to find and we had to ask a local shop owner for guidance thru the unmarked alleyway door. Inside, the room boasted large ceilings, exposed brick walls and a hallway entrance covered in ivy. The ambience was ‘cool’ and very relaxed.
Two Bits: ARCADE BAR! As a sober sally, places with free arcade games always tickle my fancy. I didn’t know how kick butt Justin was at Pac-Man until about three years of dating! We LOVE competing to eat all the blue ghosts. Justin noted they had tons of Super Mario Brothers games too.
Patterson House: This place is the epitome of ‘cool’. We possibly weren’t hipster enough for it, but the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The waiter was delighted to create off menu cocktails around likes and dislikes of each person. The atmosphere was cozy and chic with dim lighting.
Headquarters Beercade: I hadn’t realized this until my sister told me, but we actually visited this same bar in Chicago as well! I believe these are the only two though. This was a huge arcade bar with tons of free games including Pac-Man, Tetris, Paper Boy, Frogger and lots of Pin Ball machines. I loved the Shel Silverstein themed menus and collage wall and spent some time searching for my favorite poem of course.
